Maesai Rehabilitation Project

ARCASIA A.R. Barry Will Award 2025
with our Maesai Rehabilitation Project

We are truly honored to be selected as a Finalist for the ARCASIA A.R. Barry Will Award 2025 for our Maesai Rehabilitation Project, a testament to the social and environmental impact of the proposal on a regional platform. This distinguished award is organized by the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA), a major architectural organization representing member institutes from across Asia. The A.R. Barry Will Award was established in memory of Ar. Barry Will, a respected leader and former Chairman of ARCASIA, to promote socially responsible design and empower emerging architects, graduates, and young professionals under the age of 40 to address real community needs through innovative architectural and environmental projects. Our project reimagines a traditional riverside market in Mae Sai through a cross-border, community-driven architectural approach that responds directly to seasonal flooding, cultural life, and community needs.

Innovative Design for Resilience and Social Interaction

The proposal features elevated structures, modular courtyards, and porous bamboo partitions that work together to make the building resilient to seasonal flooding while optimizing natural ventilation and encouraging social interaction. These design strategies not only adapt to climatic conditions but also promote community gathering, cultural continuity, and human-centered spatial experience.

Integration of Regenerative Design and River Ecology

By incorporating regenerative design principles and riparian buffer zones, the project strengthens both the built environment and the river ecosystem. These ecological strategies contribute to flood risk reduction, water quality improvement, and habitat enhancement along the riverfront, aligning with ARCASIA’s emphasis on socially responsible and environmentally sensitive projects. Recognition on an International Stage

Being named a finalist by ARCASIA places the Maesai Rehabilitation Project among a select group of proposals that demonstrate not only architectural creativity but also deep social relevance and environmental awareness in the Asian context. ARCASIA’s awards platform is recognized across the region for elevating impactful architectural and environmental solutions that address climate, resilience, and community welfare. ARCASIA
